Yerevan Metro

The Karen Demirchyan Yerevan Metro is a vital, eco-friendly, and high-speed component of the Armenian capital's public transportation network. Officially opened on March 7, 1981, it became the eighth subway system constructed in the Soviet Union. Today, the metro operates a single transit line stretching 13.4 kilometers and serving 10 active stations, seven of which are underground and three are at surface level. The architectural design of the stations uniquely blends Soviet modernist elements with traditional Armenian motifs, giving each complex a distinct cultural identity. Operating daily from 07:00 to 00:00, the subway system has fully transitioned to a modern contactless payment framework, accepting dedicated transport cards, electronic QR codes, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and standard bank cards to ensure seamless passenger flow. Currently, the municipal authorities are actively working on modernizing the existing infrastructure and expanding the network, highlighted by the ongoing project to construct the new "Ajapnyak" station.
