Shengavit Administrative District
Shengavit is one of the administrative districts of Armenia's capital, Yerevan, located in the southwestern part of the city. It includes Upper Shengavit, Lower Shengavit, Upper Charbakh, Lower Charbakh, Noragavit, Nor Koghb, Aeratsia, and Nor Kharberd neighborhoods. It borders the Erebuni, Malatia-Sebastia, and Kentron districts of Yerevan and the Ararat Province. 'Shengavit' is the historical name of an ancient settlement, composed of the words 'shen' and 'gavit'. Shengavit can be called the 'cradle of Yerevan' due to its deep historical roots. It originated from one of Armenia's most significant prehistoric sites, the Shengavit ancient settlement, which is approximately 6000 years old. It was a fully developed ancient eastern city with fortress walls, symbols of authority, metalworking workshops, and a developed religious system.
