Lake Sev (Sev Lich)

Lake Sev (Sev Lich) is a high-altitude freshwater reservoir located in the Syunik Province of the Republic of Armenia, on the southeastern slope of Mount Mets Ishkhanasar. Situated at an elevation of 2,658 meters above sea level, the lake is of volcanic origin, formed within the crater of an extinct volcano. The total surface area of the water body is approximately 2 km², with a length of 1.6 km, a width of 1.2 km, and a maximum depth of 7.5 meters. It is a non-flowing lake, primarily fed by snowmelt and groundwater. Due to the alpine climate, water temperatures remain low throughout the year. To preserve its ecosystem, the lake and its surrounding territory are designated as the Lake Sev State Sanctuary, which also serves as a habitat for the propagation of the Sevan trout.
