Yerevan Botanical Garden

The Yerevan Botanical Garden represents a preeminent scientific research, environmental, and educational center for the introduction, cultivation, and comprehensive study of domestic and global living plant collections. This expansive green sanctuary is situated in the northeastern part of Yerevan, on the elevated plateau of the Avan district, spanning an area of approximately 80 hectares. The garden was officially established in 1935 under the auspices of the Botanical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences, championed by renowned scientists such as Professor Hasmik Avetisyan, Academician Armen Takhtajan, and theoretically supported by the foundational master plans of architect Alexander Tamanyan. The primary objective of the institution is the exploration of plant adaptation within arid, semi-desert climatic conditions, the ex-situ preservation of the gene pool of Armenia's rare, endemic, and endangered flora, and the enhancement of the city's urban ecological balance. The structural layout of the complex encompasses several functional, geo-botanical, and scientific divisions, centered around distinct geographical plots dedicated to the dendroflora of the Caucasus, Crimea, Siberia, Eastern Asia, Western Europe, and North America, alongside a prolific rose garden known as the rosarium. The complex also features a monumental conservatory greenhouse complex that houses a delicate collection of tropical and subtropical exotic flora. The architectural and landscape style
